Witnesses sought over 'shredded waste' flytip

2 January 2018

Witnesses are being sought to find those responsible for the dumping of a large quantity of shredded waste at Grange Lane, Cotham, which appeared over the New Year’s bank holiday weekend.

Flytipping of this nature is a large scale operation which involves the offenders  processing the waste first before transporting it to the place of disposal.

Large scale, industrial flytipping is investigated by the Environment Agency and witnesses are key to identifying those who are responsible.

When flytipped waste is reported to us we will always inspect the waste to  gather any evidence that may enable us to trace the culprit or culprits.

If there is useful evidence we will look toward taking further action  including pursuing matters through the courts.

If you are out in the countryside or in a secluded area  of the district we would ask you to report any such activity that appears to suspicious. If you witness someone flytipping  please make a note of any vehicle registrations etc.

Anyone convicted of such an offence could be fined up to a maximum of £50,000 or face five years in prison.

Report an incident of flytipping online or call Newark and Sherwood District Council Customer Services on 01636 650000.
