Cycling is a brilliant exercise which is not only great for your health but can be enjoyed by the whole family. Cycling also gets you outside in the fresh air, linking you with nature and our natural environment.
For cyclists there are many beautiful places to visit in Newark and Sherwood and Nottinghamshire.
Cycling is an excellent way to get fit and have fun.
Planning where to ride
Nottinghamshire has some great areas for cycling, including some dedicated cycling facilities. A few are listed below, but you can find much more if you explore:
In Clumber Park, a local National Trust property, there are more than 20 miles of cycle routes around the lake or through the woodland. Clumber park also hosts many Cycleabout events throughout the year.
Sherwood Pines near Clipstone has woodland paths as well as all levels of mountain bike tracks.
Sherwood Pines is perfect for a day of outdoor adventure and in additional to cycling offers walking trails, adventure play parks, parkland and picnic areas, Go Ape and a brilliant café for refuelling. You can take your own bikes or hire them on site from the friendly team in the shop.
We are primarily a time trail and road race club, but our members take part in most aspects of the sport, including Cyclo Cross, Track and Mountain Biking.
BRITISH CYCLING/ go-ride - we are now running along with bc go-ride sessions, for 7 to 16 year olds.
TIME TRIALS - these are the main stay of the club over the season, taking place every Thursday night.
SUNDAY CLUB RUNS - these rides vary in mileage though the year, on average between 40-60 miles, at around 1st group 15-18 mph, 2nd group 18-21 mph. This also takes in a cafe stop. Start time 9.00 AM from the Castle (Near Cafe Bleu) 2 Groups according to fitness.
Breeze cycle rides for women have a very active programme in Newark and Sherwood.
Local Breeze champions organise fun, social, local bike rides that go at a speed that suits everyone. The rides often start or finish at a cafe so everyone can have a drink and a chat. Rides usually range between 5 and 25 miles.
The first Newark and Sherwood Festival of Cycling took place during August and September 2017 in celebration of the Tour of Britain. We are making this an annual event.
The aim of our festival is to support, excite and inspire locals who enjoy cycling as well as those who perhaps have never ridden a bike in their lives.
We have teamed up with British Cycling, Newark Castle Cycle Club, Sherwood Pines and the Velo Club Flintham along with other local partners to offer a wide range of activities. We are hope that each year there is lots of appeal for families and the next generation of tour riders!
