The Woodland Trust's Nature Detectives website offers lots of ideas for pulling on your trainers, rolling up your sleeves and getting outside. You can have fun with boredom-busting summer holiday activities, find out about nature's signs of summer, make the most of local woods, look for animal tracks, explore, smell and splash around your local park.

To celebrate the new community park in Southwell the Friends of Southwell Parks are hosting a series of stay and play workshops over the summer holidays.

Activities include arts and crafts, drumming, circus skills and bushcraft workshops.

The Nottingham Beach – 13th July – 3rd September

The seaside will once again arrive in the city as the Nottingham Beach lands in the Old Market Square once more. Enjoy a trip to the seaside in the Old Market Square. Lounge on the sandy beach, paddle in the pool or go on a ride. Plus, try delicious food and drink at the Beach bar. With a padding pool, funfair rides, the ever popular beach bar and special events planned throughout the summer, this year's beach is set to be bigger than ever.

Glow worm festival, Clumber Park – 19th -20th August, 10am – 7pm

The Gloworm festival is aimed at families with children of all ages. It’s a festival that will inspire your imaginations and invite you to play in a warm, friendly and creative environment. 1940’s weekend, Newark Air Museum, 12th – 13th August

Throughout the two days there will be a host of World War II related activities and entertainment taking place around the museum. Activites include:

  • 1940s food & cake tasting sessions
  • -Wartime sweet rations
  • Spiv ‘selling’ sweet ration books
  • Gas mask box decorating for the children
  • Shove 'a penny board & 1940s games
  • Period aircraft model displays
  • Jules & Jim’s bacon butties

Clumber Festival for food and drink, 16th -17th September

Offers great food, the fabulous producers behind the brands, award winners, special guests, exciting traders, delicious dishes to try from fantastic Street Food, Pop Up’s, cafés, bars, cocktails and much more!
Our Clumber Park Festival attracts mouthwatering fayre from amazing food hubs from around the UK and Europe. 


Palace Theatre Summer 2017

  • Summer Camp 2017 - Wicked, July 30 to August 4, 10am - 4pm - A great opportunity for young performers aged between 6 and 14 years to work towards a mini-production in 5 days.
  • Milkshake! Live, September 16, 12pm and 4pm - Starring Milkshake! favourites Bob the Builder, Little Princess, Noddy, Fireman Sam, Shimmer and Shine and Pip from Pip Ahoy!

Ingenious Inventions

Uncover a wealth of weird and wonderful stories at Ingenious Inventions, the National Civil War Centre’s summer of 17th century science! From 29th July to 3rd September join in our enormously fun craft sessions making your own telescope, creating a pocket watch or even launching a rocket!

Meet a couple of strange scientists: Prince Rupert of the Rhine, who’ll tell you how he turned Windsor Castle into a laboratory, and the eccentric Mad Madge, one of England’s first science fiction writers.

Newark and Sherwood Festival of Cycling

We are so excited that the OVO Energy Tour of Britain is coming to the district on Wednesday 6 September. In support of the tour we are hosting a festival of cycling at the end of the summer which includes a packed programme of events across the district.

Nottinghamshire is hosting Stage Four of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain 2017.

This is the UK’s premier road cycling race that takes place in September.

Wednesday 6 September will see 120 of the world’s top cyclists racing a 175-kilometre stage from Mansfield to Newark.

The tour of our district includes Blidworth, Farnsfield, Edingley, Halam, Southwell, Kirklington, Bilsthorpe, Edwinstowe, Budby, North and South Clifton, Girton, Collingham, Coddington and Newark.

Kid's Crafts at Sherwood Forest Arts and Craft Centre, Edwinstowe

Join in some Wednesday fun at Sherwood Forest Arts and Crafts Centre during the school holidays. There is a small charge for each activity and not all activities will be available every session. Combine a trip with a walk around Sherwood Forest. Cafe available.
