Dogs are welcome in Elston but the Village is subject to a Newark and Sherwood by-law that imposes a fine of up to £1000 if dog mess is not cleaned up. Dog owners are asked not to take their dogs on the Village Hall Field as this is the only open area for children to play. Dogs on public Rights of Way should be on a lead. Bins for dog excrement are located near to the BT telephone box at the junction of Toad Lane and Carrgate Lane and at the junction of Pinfold Lane and Top Street.

The Pentagon Local History Society meets in Elston Village Hall at 7.30pm on the third Wednesday of the month from September to April to hear visiting speakers. Summer outings May to July. The nearest Post Office is at Farndon. The Post Office closes at 12.30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Mail is collected from boxes on Top Street and Low Street twice daily.

The Village Shop is open weekdays from 9am to 1pm and from 2.30pm to 5pm, 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday and is closed on Sunday.
